Look Up: A New Underwater World at Second Sky
A colorful school of imagined fish now swims above Second Sky, inviting visitors to look up and experience the space in a new way.
Created by local Southern Arizona artist Joe Mussulman, the installation brings color, movement, and a touch of whimsy to the room overhead. Joe works across a wide range of disciplines, creating art that invites viewers to pause, reflect, and engage. Musical instruments and mixed-media elements often appear in his work as expressive materials and as openings for curiosity.
Born in Southern Illinois, Joe came to Arizona with his wife, Chris, in 1971. He worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for a variety of companies while continuing to make art. His creative world includes stained glass, bronze sculpture, painting, cartoons, and mixed-media work.
The pieces now installed at Second Sky reflect Joe’s current interest in recreating and reimagining musical instruments as stories, themes, and playful forms. They are a fitting addition to a place built for discovery, learning, community, and unexpected creative moments.
